As LOCKDOWN seems like it might last for some time (and many people are having to work from home that don't normally) I thought it might be useful to share some info that makes working from home easier. I’ve worked from home for ages (sometimes within other teams for agencies). This list is really for Business Owners.

1. Ensure people stick to their routines. If they normally get up , go for a run, have a shower, put on work clothes, have breakfast then go to office – make sure you and they to stick to that. Habits are ingrained and as working from home is different if these routines are kept to it makes it less stressful for everyone

2. Be Positive – Be a force for good

3. Trust your team to do the work they have been asked to do

4. Show leadership – it will take away the fear from those working from home. Tell them of the plans that are being put into place. Keep them informed of your progress

5. Have good documentation - make standard procedures clear.

6. Give priorities and deadlines – it can be hard working on your own if you’re not used to it. Don't let your days fritter away - STAY FOCUSED. DON'T GET DISTRACTED. See the Pomodoro Technique – I use this ALL THE TIME. It's a way of almost doubling your effectiveness at work by chunking jobs down into 30 minute slots. Seems simple but it's the way our brains work!! I can only concentrate for 35 minutes at a time.

Photo by Luke Peters on Unsplash Examples of Online Services by “Local” Businesses As you might guess, you do it by offering an online version of your services. Customers / clients / patients may need to keep their distance, but many still want or need now what you offer. Only a video, phone, or other online option meets these needs. The problem now is you’re not sure where to begin, because you don’t have examples or blueprints of online-only services that you can adapt to your situation. A remote option isn't an option for every business. Some businesses can only do their work in-person (Removals, roofers, dentist - although removals and roofers could do online quotes), but if my experience before and during COVID-19 is any indication, a 75% of businesses can roll out an online-only service of value to local or non-local customers. Below are examples of non-ecommerce, mostly “local” businesses that offer an online service. The online or remote service they offer is an option both for people nearby and for non-locals. As you go through the list, think of what might just work for you.
